Finding the perfect shampoo can seem impossible sometimes — especially if you’re looking to stay eco-friendly and hypoallergenic.

We know what you’re thinking:

As a salon owner, booth renter, or solo hair stylist, you want to know which hair products are best for your clients — and best for your business.

To help you find the perfect products for you and your salon, we turned to the pros for help building a list.

Here are the best hypoallergenic, eco-friendly hair products for your salon — according to the experts.

12 Best Hypoallergenic Hair Care Products

Sarah Roberts is a hair and skincare expert and the founder of the online beauty publication A Beauty Edit.

As an expert who takes a science-based approach to skincare and beauty products, Sarah suggests that folks in need of hypoallergenic products “go for products that are free of sulfates, synthetic fragrances, formaldehyde and parabens.”

Her three product recommendations are Everist, Ethique and Plaine Products — because, in her words, they are “some of the best eco-conscious, hypo-allergenic conditioner and shampoo brands on the market right now.”

Ghanima Abdullah, a cosmetologist for The Right Hair Styles, let us know about a ton of great hypoallergenic products: Shea Radiance’s shampoo, conditioner, and keratin mask, as well as Redken Color Gel Oils.

Shea Radiance products are free from scalp sensitizing ingredients like fragrances, formaldehyde-releasing agents,” Ghanima said — “like those contained in cosmetic preservatives, and propylene glycol.”

And for Redken Color Gel Oils, Ghanima told us they “contain no ammonia or fragrance, so they are perfect for color treatments on those with allergic sensitivities.”

Ghanima also suggested a few other products: Fro.ology, Free & Clear, Paula’s Choice, and Aveda.

“Fewer people leave the salon with an itchy scalp when product lines like this are used,” Ghanima said.

Lauren Udoh, Hair Creative Director of WigReports.com and a working hairstylist, gave us the scoop on Vaadi Herbals Amla with Shikakai & Reetha Shampoo.

“It’s an all-natural, hypoallergenic product made from Ayurvedic herbs and natural ingredients that are gentle on the hair and scalp,” Lauren said.

“Its unique combination of Amla, Shikakai and Reetha helps protect against environmental damage and nourishes your locks to give them a lustrous glow.”

12 Best Eco-Friendly Hair Care Products

Professional hair stylist and Hair Consultant for Keswigs, Arrogant Smith recommended the Kitsch Strengthening Hair Conditioner Bar with Rice Water Protein.

“This product is formulated for all hair types with rice water protein to nourish and strengthen hair,” Arrogant said, “while providing anti-frizz benefits….”

Its bar packaging helps reduce unnecessary plastic. Plus, “… it’s “cruelty-free, vegan-friendly, paraben-free, and sulfate-free — so it’s perfect for those looking to switch to more environmentally conscious products without sacrificing quality or performance”

Caleb Backe is the Hair Expert for Maple Holistics — a 100% cruelty free hair care brand that uses essential oils and other natural ingredients to create products for every hair type.

Caleb let us know about Maple Holistics’ Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner Set, as well as their Rebundance Hair Care Bundle and the Biotin Castor Shampoo and Conditioner.

The Tea Tree Set is a “blend of tea tree, rosemary, jojoba, shea butter, and other botanical extracts,” Caleb said.

Its “plant-powered duo delivers amazing results, leaving hair beautifully radiant and revitalized.”

Caleb also added that it “aligns with eco-conscious practices and offers a safe and environmentally friendly choice for hair care in your salon.”

Janine Jarman is the Founder of Curl Cult, a celebrity stylist, and owner of Hairroin Salon in Los Angeles.

Janine recommended Curl Cult’s eco-friendly hair products because they are “vegan, cruelty free, and made in a zero water waste facility.”

Of course, they make your hair look great, too!

Curl Cult’s Clarifying Shampoo is “made with pea proteins to deeply nourish and hydrate,” Janine said, “leaving hair fiber soft, shiny and easier to comb.”

Stefan Bianchi is Head Stylist at Bellezza Mondo Salon and has more than a decade of experience in the hair and beauty industry.

Stefan let us know their salon is committed to “incorporating hypoallergenic and eco-conscious products into our daily operations to provide excellent services without compromising our client’s health or the environment.”

Avalon products use “plant-sourced biotin,” Stefan said, which is a “water-soluble vitamin necessary for cell growth and the production of fatty acids.”

They’re also “cruelty-free and biodegradable.”
